Abstract. Simple formula of estimating size distribution of spheres in three-dimensional space is derived based on the distribution of the square chord length of linear intercepts with their circular profiles. The use of the formula has several advantage 5 which are simple mathematical manipulation, ease of gathering experimental data, and less subject to accumulation of errors or fluctuations in the data. In addition, the amount of computation is reduced, immediate smoothing of data histogram distribution is possible to avoid the number of spheres become negative, and the correction of the number of missing Chords in the smallest class interval is easy.
