Abstract. Mathematical functions are often used in computer art. Among many methods in computer art, the so-called function method uses mathematical functions most directly: it maps two-dimensional functions f(x, y) on the canvas. Although many patterns obtained by the function method are quite attractive, each pattern often lacks some essential factor of beauty when viewed as a picture. This article discusses how to generate beautiful pictures by a computer and presents ten pictures obtained by the function method. This shows that the, function method is quite promising in computer art.
