Abstract. Abstract. Surfaces or 2-D manifolds can be used to propose possible structures with different curvatures at different levels of complexity. Graphite is an example of a material which can be bent in different ways to produce fullerenes, nanotubes, cones and sponges with negative curvature. Some of these arrangements have been found and others are waiting to be discovered. In this paper we also extend the idea of bending structures to other systems such as silicate mesophases.
