Abstract. When designers define a curve, the curvature change and the volume are controlled as the 'characteristics' of a curve unconsciously. In this study, the mathematical method for quantifying the 'characteristics' of a curve was developed. The 'characteristics' of parabola, since curve, equiangular spiral, and logarithmic curve were analyzed by this quantitative analysis. As a result, it was confirmed that the 'characteristics' varied with curves. Thus, it is possible to estimate the mathematical expressions of actual curves from the result of this analysis.
