Abstract. The spontaneous motion of an oil droplet in an aqueous phase with a cationic surfactant was investigated. The spatio-temporal motion changed depending on chemical stimuli (acid, sucrose, and alcohol) in the aqueous phase. The spatio-temporal responses to the chemical stimuli were discussed in relation to the heterogeneity of the interfacial tension at the oil-water interface, and Young's equation.
